Change does not come from apathy – Jacobs

Jacobs says this is a pivotal year for the city, one that needs collective push for better.

Ward 98 councillor Beverly Jacobs embraces the new year with open arms, ready to work and fight for a better Johannesburg.

Here is what she had to say to the residents of Ward 98…

I hope the holidays brought you much-needed rest and a fresh start. 2026 is a pivotal year for Johannesburg, and together we will push for accountability, dignity, and real change in Ward 98.

As we step into 2026, my vision for Ward 98 is to continue fighting for a ward and a city that works, a safe community, and a government that serves its people.

I will keep highlighting the failures within the government and honestly address areas that require improvement, including where political leaders have let our city down for far too long.

A better Johannesburg is only possible if residents refuse to resign themselves to the current reality. Change does not come from apathy; it comes from action. Apathy does not punish the people responsible – it protects them.

This is why I continue to urge residents to stay engaged in 2026, log issues even when it feels pointless, and, most importantly, show up when it counts. When communities participate, vote, and speak up together, they shift the balance of power. Without that, nothing in Johannesburg will change – not the streetlights, not the water outages, not the governance.

May 2026 be a year of courage, unity, and action. Let us join forces to make Johannesburg a city for everyone.

Here’s to a productive, hopeful, purpose-driven year ahead, one that leaves a legacy we can all be proud of.
