Northcliff Primary School’s new Grade 1s loved their first day of big school
With the hopes and dreams of parents who dropped off their young children for the first day of their academic careers being an emotional one, the day went off without a hitch.
Northcliff Primary School has successfully welcomed into the school’s family Grade 1 learners who by all accounts had a wonderful first day.
After an initial swarm of parents dropping off their young children at the gates for their first day of ‘big school’, a calm enveloped the school as everyone found their way to their new classrooms to begin their formal academic careers.
One teacher, Aimee Botha, was visibly impressed when she asked learners to come to the board at the front of her class and find their names. Her class did this exercise with ease meaning her cohort of little students had had a good grounding in preparing them for the year ahead.
The school has 150 Grade 1 learners this year principal Debbie Smith said, 36 having graduated from Grade R at the school last year.
“We hope the year will be a positive experience where our learners not only achieve well academically but also enjoy extramural activities and feel a part of the Northcliff Primary School family.”
Speaking of achievements last year, Smith said, “Our new robotics lab is up and running and linked to the technology room which has both been wonderful additions in addition to the revamped library to give our learners the best opportunities we can as we prepare them eventually for high school.”
She says all the teachers, staff and the school governing body work tirelessly to ensure the school is a happy environment for young minds to thrive in.
Grade R, while not compulsory yet, gives learners a firm footing from which to begin their education journey. There are still several spaces available, should parents wish to enrol their children on the 2024 class.
