GALLERY: Adrenaline fuelled action at the Oval Track

In honour of World Autism Awareness Day, racers and their families marched a half-track journey waving blue balloons.

The smell of octane fuel filled the air, as motorheads attended the monthly Oval Track meeting at the Newcastle Oval Raceway on Saturday (April 7).

In honour of World Autism Awareness Day, racers and their families marched a half-track journey waving blue balloons.

Racers also tied the balloons to their race cars as a demonstration of support.

The results of the day were as follows:

In the Go-Kart division, Thaba-Jan Ntjobokoane was placed first, with Raeesa Cassim and Liam Lindeque in second and third place respectively.

Stephan van der Merwe won the Rookie Division, with Tiaan Buys hot on his heels in second position and CJ Myburgh in third.

In the 1600s Division, Ali Jamaloodeen took the chequered flag, with Zaakira Khan and Wilma Lindeque in second and third position respectively.

Hendrik van der Merwe claimed the first place in the 1660s Division. Craig Lindeque and Kevin White were second and third respectively.

Bringing out the big guns in the 2 Litre Division, Gideon Hand dominated, with Shaukat Khan and Ali Jamaloodeen battling it out for second and third.

Gideon Hand also took first place in the Hot Rods Division, with Hendrik van der Merwe in second place and Neels Koen in third place.

Flip Gericke proved that power was the point in the Tin Top/ Flexi’s Division, sprinting ahead of Boet Boys and JP Bruin on his way to victory.
