Hilldrop Heritage takes a leaf out of the Jungle Book

The children were involved in every aspect of the production, such as writing lyrics, stage design and setting up.

Hilldrop Heritage School believes creativity helps ‘children climb their own mountains, as high as possible’.

Participation in the creative activities involved in a school play, such as singing, acting, painting and dancing, was considered essential for children not only because they were fun, but because they taught children the self-discipline and confidence they needed to achieve their goals.

Recently, Hilldrop Heritage School presented The Jungle Book at Tugela High School.

What was remarkable about the school’s production was that every Hilldrop Heritage child participated, from the baby class (12 months old) up to the Grade Seven class.

“Our entire school family worked together to bring the well-known story of Mowgli to life, practicing the movie’s hit songs such a Bare Necessities, but also adding our own flair to the play by including art forms like rap, ballet and gumboot dancing,” said Haley Ponter of Hilldrop Heritage.

The children were involved in every aspect of the production, such as writing lyrics, stage design and setting up.

Professional instructors from local studios helped choreograph the dance scenes, while audience members responded enthusiastically to the variety of musical items as well as to the beautiful costumes, lighting and set design.

Congratulations to all on a wonderful show!
