Dozens of employers, employees and supporters gathered along the R74 from Winterton to Bergville to form a human chain in protest of the current lockdown regulations, calling on government to open up the sector.

The protestors held up placards, which told of household earners without jobs and businesses in limbo.

Joining the protestors was Democratic Alliance member of parliament Alf Lees.

The group thereafter converged at Okhahlamba Local Municipality in Bergville to handover a memorandum to municipal manager Nkosingiphile Malinga.

Mr Malinga did not initially emerge from his office but after chants from the crowd, he addressed them in the company of the mayor Mlungisi Ndlangisa.

The pair agreed to channel the memorandum to the relevant government authorities and report back.
