Clarens charm local trail runners with its beauty
The trail run was well supported with close to 1000 runners
Five ladies from Vryheid last weekend ran the Titanic Trail Run around the quaint town of Clarens in the Eastern Free State. The trail consisted of 21km of the most beautiful single tracks.
The route took runners from the town square, up the mountain behind Clarens and deep into the conservancy. From there, the intrepid athletes went to the iconic Titanic rock overlooking the town.
The Titanic rock, aptly named, is a huge sandstone rock set high up on the mountain behind this beautiful Free State town. The runners passed around this rock, passing the foot of the impressive natural structure before climbing up to the back and top of the mountain where there are tough and technical single tracks purposely built for walks and runs around Clarens.
The single-track route took runners along the top of the mountain where they were awarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.
The route then undulated down to little pools and huge flat rocks, past the most beautiful Aloe flowers that were in full bloom.
Just when runners thought the run was over, close to town, a sneaky 2km section was inserted taking runners on the last bit of a technical single track before finishing again in the town square where a beer garden and ice cream stand provided much-needed sustenance to up the energy levels.
The trail run was well supported with close to 1000 runners and it was great to run with friends in such beautiful surroundings.
This coming weekend, September 14, the Michaelis Challenge will be held at Bloemveld Dam. Don’t miss the opportunity to run on Vryheid’s own single tracks taking athletes through the most beautiful pine plantations. There are runs with distances for everyone as well as mountain bike events. All the events start and finish at Bloemveld Dam where there will also be a great atmosphere with great food etc.
Bring friends and family and come and enjoy the day.
Entries can still be done at the dam on the day.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
