Electricity cut off after paying

It took four phone calls and two hours for the electricity to be turned back on

A businessman in town claims he had his electricity cut after paying the bill.
The business owner was away in Durban and his wife went in to the municipality to pay the electricity bill in cash at about 11.30am on September 19. At about midday, municipal workers went to the business and cut the electricity, despite being told that the account had just been paid. The municipality was then called to try and get the power turned back on. It is alleged that the municipality cut the calls when they were asked why the business’ electricity had been turned off after the account had been paid.
“It took four phone calls and two hours for the electricity to be turned back on. The lady I spoke to kept hanging up on me when I asked why we had been cut off,” explained the business owner. The electricity supply was reconnected at about 3pm.
At the time of going to press, the municipality had failed to comment.
