For the second time this year, businessman, Yunus Kader has found himself a victim of crime.
His testing station and a neighbouring café situated in the same building on Faraday Street, were targeted in a burglary in the early hours of Monday morning.
Mr Kader explained his morning had started off with a phone call at about 3.15am.
“I got a call from Buffalo Security to say my shop was broken into.”
Rushing out to the scene, Mr Kader said he discovered a rock had been hurled through the glass-paned front door, and burglars had set about destroying the alarm system.
Once inside, the criminals stole a portable telephone and little else. “We estimate they caused about R10 000 in damages,” Mr Kader added.
He explained the burglary would not affect his business greatly, although he is upset at being a repeat victim of crime, having been ‘cleaned out’ in January this year. “I came in that time and it was all broken up inside.”
Manager of the café next door, Nanda Naidoo said burglars had gained entry to his premises by the same means. It was a tough thing to deal with, he continued, to be forced to wake up and deal with the aftermath of a break-in.
Fortunately, the café’s losses were minimal. Some years ago, the losses incurred by Mr Naidoo’s business after a burglary included a large amount of cigarettes and cash.
Concluding, Mr Kader said he was still contemplating reporting the matter to the police.
