Ladysmith K-9 Unit officers responsible for patrolling the N3 and main routes made a large copper cable find and arrested four suspects on Friday.
Warrant Officer Cliffie Francis and Constable Collen Hadebe were on patrol when they received information about a suspicious-looking vehicle travelling along the R103 towards Ladysmith. They followed the vehicle to a garage in Ladysmith and pounced on the unsuspecting occupants.
The officers found five bags containing 334kg of copper cable and arrested four suspects, all in their mid-30s. The copper cable was identified as belonging to Eskom, with a value of about R15,000.
The suspects appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of possession of suspected stolen property. The vehicle was seized and will be checked to verify its ownership.
