Ladysmith and Ezakheni police arrested 137 people last week.
The arrests were for crimes which included attempted murder, rape, aggravated robbery, sexual assault and kidnapping. Arrests were also made for possession of stolen property, fraud, common robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm, housebreaking, crimen injuria, theft, stock theft, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), malicious injury to property, possession of drugs, drunken driving, shoplifting, drunkenness and drinking in public.
The officers recovered firearms, dagga, knives, cell-phones, car parts, copper wire and ammunition.
These arrests and recoveries are the result of various police operations conducted to address contact crimes (such as murder, rape and assault), trio crimes (such as house robbery, business robbery and hijacking) and property crimes (such as stock theft and housebreaking).
