An argument over an umbrella ended in murder at the Dundee taxi rank.
Sonnyboy ‘Zeze’ Mtshali (36) from Lindelani had quarreled on Saturday afternoon with a Chinese shop-owner’s wife and son over a broken umbrella he had purchased earlier.
Upon his return to the shop to ask for a new umbrella, Mr Mtshali asked the woman and her son to exchange the broken one.
When the two refused to exchange the umbrella Mr Mtshali forcefully took another one.
The wife and son tried to stop him, but were assaulted with a mop that Mr Mtshali had found lying in the shop.
The owner of the shop arrived to curb the situation but was also assaulted.
He then drew a firemarm and shot Mr Mtshali twice – in the chest and stomach. Mr Mtshali died on the scene.
One of the bullets also hit Siyabonga Magubane (25), a taxi driver who was standing outside the shop. He is being treated at the Dundee hospital.
The shop-owner and his family suffered injuries to the face and arms. The 46-year-old Chinese national is facing charges of murder and attempted murder.
