He paid her R10 each time he raped her in a bid to keep her quiet, and professed his love to her on numerous occasions.
On September 21, Mduduzi Nhlanhla Zulu (42) was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment for rape after he continuously raped a 14-year-old girl from the Luvisi area.
His reign of terror began in September 2010, when he first met the victim at his home where she was among a group of people playing cards.
Once the game had finished and people had already left, he asked the victim to have sex with him, and when she refused he threw her on his bed, where he raped her.
Mduduzi continued to rape her after the first occasion, paying her R10 each time and professing his love for her.
She was too scared to report the matter, and so the abuse continued until community members noticed that she was being taken advantage of, and reported it to her mother.
It then came to light that she was being raped on a regular basis.
After a lengthy trial he was sentence to ten years’ imprisonment in the Dundee Regional Court.
The sentence has come as a welcome warning for adults not to take advantage of youngsters – sexual intercourse with a minor is a serious offence.
The Dundee Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit hopes that this sentence will encourage parents to be more vigilant concerning the safety and protection of their young daughters and sons.
