Traffic cop arrested

THE SAPS have confirmed that a municipal traffic officer has been arrested for corruption. Maj Mbatha of the SAPS confirmed on Monday that Phakamani Khumalo was “arrested for corruption on 2013/10/18 and appeared in Vryheid Magistrate Court on 2013/10/21.” He is currently out on bail.
Information in the matter has not been forthcoming from the municipality, which failed to answer any enquiries in this regard at the time of going to press.
The municipality was asked to confirm the arrest, and whether the officer had been suspended as a result of the case against him. It was also asked whether, if suspended, it was on full pay, and whether or not the officer had been fired. The municipality was also asked to provide a statement regarding its attitude to corruption.
No answers were received.
