A VRYHEID taxi owner (55) has been arrested by Vryheid Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for rape, five days after he allegedly raped an 18 year old victim. He was due to appear in the Vryheid Magistrate’s Court on October 28.
On October 20 at approximately 14:30, an 18 year old victim was at the Vryheid Taxi rank waiting for a taxi to take her to Mathunjwa area.
While waiting, she had a runny stomach and decided to go to a nearby toilet.
As she entered the toilet, it is alleged that she was followed by the suspect who threatened her and raped her inside the toilet. A case of rape was opened at Vryheid Police Station and the docket was taken by Vryheid Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.
Provincial Commissioner General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, had commended Vryheid Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for their outstanding work that led to the arrest of the alleged rapist.
This will send a strong message to the criminals that the South African Police Service has adopted zero tolerance in any sort of criminal activities directed against women and children.
