Four suspects have been arrested in connection with a house robbery in Roosboom on Thursday night.
It was about 11pm when four men entered a house in the Ensimbini area of Roosboom, their intention being to rob the occupant using a firearm. The 50-year-old complainant remained calm during the robbery, and the suspects got away with cash and a cell-phone.
Police were contacted and an investigation launched. By midday on Friday, detectives had made a breakthrough in the case and arrested a man in connection with the incident. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of the other three suspects. The young detectives working the case also determined that the firearm used was in the possession of a man from the same area. The man in question is the brother of one of the suspects. He was traced and when detectives searched his premises, they recovered a .38 revolver with ammunition. The man was arrested and charged for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The four suspects appeared briefly in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Monday. Two are aged 16, while the other two are 21 and 32 years old. The firearm will be sent to the Forensic Ballistic Unit for testing to establish if it has been used in any other crimes.
