Vryheid Stock Theft Unit out in full force for the festive season
Suspect arrested and set to appear in court.
The Vryheid Stock Theft Unit recovered a total of 16 suspected stolen cattle, 11 goats, one sheep and arrested a man for stock theft at Mondlo near Vryheid.
The 25 year old suspect is due to appear in the Nqutu Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, December 12, for stock theft. The operation started on December 8 in the Vryheid, Mondlo and Gluckstadt areas of northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Four cattle, three goats and a sheep were recovered at Mondlo whilst 12 cattle were found at Gluckstadt and eight goats found at Vryheid.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni expressed her confidence in the current Festive Season crime prevention and detection strategy to fight stock theft in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.
“We will continue to fight stock theft in partnership with the rural livestock owners. We urge them to properly brand mark their livestock for speedy identification purposes and also advise them to take necessary precautions to safeguard their livestock whilst grazing. We commend the substantial recovery of the stolen livestock and arrest of the suspects,” said Lieutenant General Ngobeni.
