A brave resident was instrumental in the arrest of a robber on Tuesday last week.
The 23-year-old resident was sitting in his vehicle at the lookout point outside La Verna Hospital just after 12.30pm when two people walked up to him, opened the car door and snatched a cell-phone. The two suspects then fled down the hill.
The resident gave chase and managed to catch hold of one of them. In the ensuing scuffle, the resident sustained slight injuries and the stolen cell-phone was damaged. Other members of the community came to the man’s aid and the suspect was taken to Ladysmith police station with the help of Ezakheni police officers who happened upon the incident. The second robber got away.
The arrested suspect faces charges of common robbery.
