Mayhem at the municipality

Adv Brijraj assaulted by angry mob at municipal building.

Chaos erupted at Endumeni Municipality this morning when former acting Municipal Manager, Adv R. Brijraj, was attacked by an angry mob of workers after he reported to work.

The angry mob- said to number about 40 according to police on the scene – were adamant that they would not let Adv Brijraj into the building as he was ‘no longer employed at the municipality.’

It is believed that he was surrounded outside the building, sent to the ground and assaulted.

Adv Brijraj sustained injuries but it is unclear how serious they are. Witnesses reported that  he went to a doctor for medical treatment.

Municipal Manager, Mr Biyela reported to police on scene of the fight that Adv Brijraj and his bodyguards ‘had broken into his office and refused to allow him access into it to do his job.’  Further details could not be obtained no official statement has been received from the Municipality.

It is unclear whether normal service has resumed at the municipality.  Municipal staff were said to have been left horrified by the attack.

At a council meeting held two weeks ago, the majority of the seven councillors present declared the September 25 meeting null and void.

It was this meeting that saw the upliftment of Mr Biyelas suspension and the charges brought against him dropped.

However, Mayor Mahaye is adamant that only he can give the go ahead for Adv Brijraj to resume his post.
