With the new year just in, many eyes were fixed on the matriculants of 2013 as their results were due to be released a week into the new year.

Anxiety, tension and excitement are just a few ways one could describe the atmosphere in town on Tuesday, January 7, as many matrics from high schools all around town gathered at local petrol service stations from as early as 01:00 am to await the arrival of the newspapers bearing the Matric results.

It’s safe to say that the results were indeed worth the wait as the previous years matriculants in the Zululand District achieved a brilliant 75.7% pass rate, which was just 1.7% lower than the provincial pass mark of 77.4%.

KZN Education MEC Peggy Nkonyeni described the province’s 2013 matric results as “a good story.”
