A three-week-old sewer leak has been nagging some businesses in Harding Street.
The trail of slimy water sits stagnant between the post office and Rainbow Bakery Receiving.
A staff member from the food outlet told the Estcourt News that it seemed like the leak was stemming from the nearby Telkom office.
After reporting the leak to the local Post Master, he notified the health department at Umtshezi Municipality at about 2.20pm last Thursday.
“The person I spoke to said they would take it up with the Director but up until today (Monday) nothing has been done,” he said.
Besides the awful stench, the staff member says that high quality hygiene is expected from a food outlet and the persistent sewer leak was compromising this.
“The water is turning green and may contain many diseases. We can’t bear the smell and we work from 8am to 6pm,” he commented. The leak was reported to Uthukela District Municipality.
