
What started as drinks amongst friends turned into murder in Thembalihle on December 22, 2013.
40-year-old Mqhwando Mchunu was allegedly drinking at a tavern with 24-year-old Phakamani Majola.
When Mchunu left, the younger man allegedly followed him and stabbed him.
Police were called on at 11.22pm. “No one witnessed the incident however the victim told his sister that the suspect stabbed him.
The suspect has appeared in court and applied for bail but the matter is not finalised yet,” commented police spokesperson Captain JS Sokhela.
He added that the motive for the murder is unknown at this stage.
A second murder in Thembalihle was reported four days later on December 26.
At about 8am police were called to the scene where they found the body of Sifololo Elias Mkhize (45) who sustained fatal injuries to his face, arm and head.
“No one has been arrested and the police appeal to members of the community to come forward with any information, which would lead to the arrest and conviction of the culprits. A reward will be offered,” said Captain Sokhela.
