Dundee police have finally apprehended two suspects involved in an armed robbery and attempted murder that took place 10 years ago.
The case was handed over to the Durban Organised Crime Unit, but was brought back to Dundee last year in November after no suspects were apprehended, and the case was filed as unsolved.
Detective Antony Nkabini of the Dundee SAPS arrested one suspect on January 11 on Cooper Farm, Dannhauser, who later gave up his accomplice.
It is believed that in 2003 a driver of a white bakkie gave a lift to three men who were travelling to De Jager’s Drift.
Two of them sat at the back of the bakkie while one climbed into the front to sit with the driver.
Upon their arrival at their destination the third suspect (who has not been apprehended, and is believed to have since died), followed the driver to the back of the bakkie, where he was going to open the door for the two passengers.
The third passenger then pointed a firearm at the driver and ordered him to get into the back of the bakkie; he also ordered one of the other passengers to drive the bakkie away.
Police information states that at the back of the bakkie the complainant and the passenger with the gun quarrelled, which led to the driver of the bakkie being hit by the gun on his neck.
However, he managed to escape as the door of the bakkie flew open, and he managed to get help.
The suspects appeared in the Dundee District Court on Monday, and the case was postponed to January 22 for a bail application.
