A ‘most dangerous criminal’ has been sentenced to three life sentences plus 39 years for brutally terrorising, raping and assaulting women over a five-year period.
Mbuzeni Bizokwakhe Mbhele (32) of Pomeroy appeared in the Pietermaritzburg High Court last week, when the judge heard the details of his crimes.
He was convicted of three counts of rape (10 years each), three counts of kidnapping (three years each), and three counts of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
A 33-year-old woman from Pomeroy area had been repeatedly terrorised and brutally attacked by the accused over a period from 2006 until 2011: she was kidnapped, raped and assaulted by the accused on several separate occasions. Cases were opened at the Nhlanhleni police station; the accused has been on the run since 2006.
He was only arrested in 2011 after he was involved in a car accident in the Nquthu area.
Police received information that he was admitted to one of the hospitals, and he was then traced and arrested.
