
Police officers attached to Ladysmith Detective Services made breakthroughs in a number of cases over the weekend .
The team of detectives, who are responsible for investigating trio crimes, have been working around the clock in an effort to arrest suspects wanted for serious crimes that have been committed in the Ladysmith area.
The team concentrated on solving a recent murder that occurred in the KwaMntandi area, where a man was shot and killed. The deceased, 33-year-old Siphamandla Enock Thabede, was sitting inside his house when he was shot at through the window. He died at the scene. The detectives attended the funeral on Saturday, acting on information that one of the suspects would also be there. A 40-year-old suspect was arrested at the funeral and will appear in court this week facing murder charges.
On the same day, two arrests were made for an armed robbery that took place in Area J of Steadville on December 22 last year. A 36-year-old Steadville resident was walking with his girlfriend when they were accosted by three people. The man was robbed of his firearm. The two arrested suspects, aged 24 and 28, will join a third in court. The third suspect, aged 28, was arrested on Saturday, January 5. All three are set to appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Friday, February 7, on charges of robbery.
