Hawkers are a common sight in town, whether we like it or not.
While many may be honest, simply trying to make a living to support their families, there are some who acquire their merchandise through criminal activities.
Captain Shooz Magudulela, the SAPS spokesperson, has urged the community not to buy stolen goods, especially DVDs, CDs, electrical equipment, jewellery, cellphones or perfume. Moreover, these goods are bound to be fake.
“If you buy stolen goods, more victims will suffer because purchasing goods obtained in an illegal manner, motivates criminals to repeat their actions.”
The demand for stolen goods gives rise to an increase in crimes such as burglaries, robbery, assault or even murder.
Receiving stolen goods is also punishable by law.
