A joint operation by police stations in the Ladysmith Cluster, Estcourt Cluster and Newcastle Public Order Policing (POP) Unit last weekend resulted in the recovery of several items, some suspected to have been stolen and others illegal.
On February 2, police conduced various activities in the Mkhalandoda area, which borders Weenen and Ezakheni. The aim was to quell incidents of violence which have flared up in the area recently. During the operation, one person was taken into custody in Ezakheni-D Section for being in possession of suspected stolen property.
The recovered items included a DVD player, an amplifier, speakers, a wall clock and photo frames. The 23-year-old suspect appeared briefly in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court on February 3.
In the Sahlumbe area, police recovered abandoned items which included a 9mm pistol, a magazine, 27 9mm live rounds, 22 live shotgun rounds, 60 R1 live rounds, 90 R5 live rounds and four live .45 rounds. While in the Mkhalandoda area of Umhlumayo, police recovered a 25-litre plastic bucket filled with loose dagga, left abandoned.
Ezakheni detectives are in the process of tracing the rightful owners of the property. Operations are ongoing in the area.
