Money stolen out of vehicle

Two cases have been opened on January 31 regarding theft in the Newcastle CBD.

The victim of the first case withdrew of R10 000 at Voortrekker Road and left the money in his car. He then made his way to the corner of Ayliff and Kirkland streets to do some shopping. When he returned to his car, he found the window smashed and the money stolen. “No arrests have been made and the investigation continues,” said Captain Shooz Magudulela, the police spokesperson.

On the same day, R40 000 was stolen out of a car in Murchison Street. After the victim had withdrawn money at the Newcastle Mall, she drove to Murchison Street, where she was told that her car had a flat tyre. She made her way to the nearest garage and discovered that the money was gone.

The police have issued a few pointers to stop this from happening:

· Do not withdraw money if you are not going to use it immediately.

· Ask a friend or family member to accompany you when making a withdrawal.

· Be aware at all times.
