A street in Signal Hill was literally bogged down by overflowing sewage earlier this week.
On Monday morning, residents reported human waste water bubbling from under the ground and gushing down Uranus Crescent, creating a foul stench of the literal kind.
This water flowed, in turn, into a storm water drain further down the road.
Later that afternoon, municipal workers attempted to staunch the flow of effluent, and Nathi Khumalo stated the problem stemmed from a burst pipe at a nearby home’s connection to the main sewerage line.
However, he added, the problem would not take long to be resolved.
Alec Coetzee, who resides in the area, said while the stench of overflowing sewage had not reached his home, problems with municipal infrastructure were nothing new.
In defence of the municipality, Mr Coetzee explained they were quick to resolve matters when reported.
“At the corner, the drain has been leaking for more than a week.”
Dismayed residents have noted sewage woes at Uranus Crescent are nothing new, with the street having featured previously in media reports for surging torrents of effluent.
