Ward councillor for Ward 21, Sechaba Ndlovu appeared in court this week on charges of assault.
Following an incident at a local bar last Thursday involving a man with whom he had had business dealings in the past, a case of assault has been opened against Cllr Ndlovu.
According to sources, Cllr Ndlovu and the man had an argument, during which Cllr Ndlovu poked the man on the head with his middle finger. Witnesses at the scene said he then told the man that he ‘will rot in hell’.
According to Cllr Ndlovu, the man had made a secret affidavit to the police that he, the councillor, owed him money. Furthermore, Cllr Ndlovu claimed that whenever he confronted the man regarding the contents of the affidavit, they would argue.
Cllr Ndlovu claimed that parties within the ANC used the opportunity to discredit him, as a result of an attempted vote to have the mayor, Afzul Rehman, removed from office.
On Monday, the court gave Cllr Ndlovu two choices. Either he approaches the man and rectifies the situation, or the court will continue the investigation, and sentence him according to the outcome. The case was postponed until February 26.
“I am willing to speak to him, and to apologise for what happened,’ said Cllr Ndlovu.
