The mayor’s bodyguard, Edwin Ogle, who was involved in a shooting incident in November last year, is back at work.
Mr Ogle was charged with attempted murder after he had fired at patrons following an argument in a bar in Fairleigh.
Mr Ogle returned to work the beginning of this month, actively guarding the lives of the mayor and his family.
The Mayor of Newcastle, Afzul Rehman was quoted in a previous article saying “Until the investigation is completed, he will not be returning to his current responsibilities.”
After the incident, Mr Ogle went on leave. The court remanded the case on several occasions, with the result that Mr Ogle was compelled to use all leave available to him. “We could not have a situation where he was not at work,” said Cllr Rehman.
Asked if he felt safe with Mr Ogle guarding him, Cllr Rehman claimed to have no issues with Mr Ogle.
“I have never had any issue with him and his work. What he does in his personal time, is his business,” said Cllr Rehman. “He will need to sort it out on his own, in his own time.”
The case has been postponed until March 11.
