Human waste and used condoms are disgusting testaments to the decay of certain areas in the CBD.
Instead of being properly disposed of, these foul landmines can be seen festering in the alleyway linking Harding Street and the parking lot off Voortrekker Street.
Added to this, residents talked of public urination and worse.
Some stated the problem had been raised with the municipality on numerous occasions, yet the responsibility was laid elsewhere and no cleaners were dispatched.
Residents now feel the health risks posed by festering waste can no longer be ignored.
“We must stand up and say something about this,” one resident exclaimed.
An email to the municipality was sent to determine whose responsibility it was to maintain the alleyway and why it hadn’t been cleaned for months.
This email also included a business owner’s idea to have the alleyway enclosed with gates.
The Community Services department’s Moses Mbonana said it was not possible to respond at ‘this state’, but that he could only do so after a formal investigation.
