From February 10 to 17, Protection Services employees said they responded to three house fires, seven collisions, three rescue missions and three grass/brush fires.
Dwelling fires
February 10 – A fire was reported in the early hours of the morning at Woodward Street, although the call was later cancelled by the person who reported the incident.
February 14 – A rondavel at Madadeni caught alight and was engulfed by flames. The fire team managed to quell the blaze, however, and there were no injuries.
February 16 – Reports of a house fire at oSizweni proved to be a false call.
Motor vehicle collisions
February 11 – A pedestrian walked near the fire engine in Madadeni and was knocked over. Fortunately, the pedestrian was not seriously injured, while the vehicle suffered minor damages.
Later, a light delivery vehicle and a sedan collided on the P483 Madadeni/oSizweni Road. There were no injuries.
February 12 – A light delivery vehicle plunged down an embankment and into a ditch, although the driver was unharmed.
Later, two sedans collided on Voortrekker Street, with no injuries reported.
February 13 – A sedan collided with a cyclist on Allen Street; the cyclist was seriously injured and rushed to Madadeni Hospital for treatment.
February 14 – A sedan and a four-wheeler collided at Ingagane, which was fortunately only a fender bender.
February 16 – A motorist lost control of his vehicle while coming around the bend at the intersection of Jenkyn and Tagore Streets, resulting in the vehicle being totalled.
MVA rescues
February 13 – A horse and trailer caught alight on the R34 on the evening, and the driver was freed with no injuries.
February 15 – A horse and trailer caught fire when the wheel bearing heated up and sparked a fire while travelling along the N11 near the Albert Wessels Drive junction. The driver was unhurt.
February 16 – The vehicle caught alight and stopped on Percy Riley Street. It was totally damaged.
Grass/bush/refuse fires
Three fires were reported in Suryaville, Paradise and on Gutenberg Street.
