
Political violence and Umtshezi have been in the national headlines this week after a National Freedom Party (NFP) member was shot eight times in Wembezi on Saturday evening.
29-year-old Khulekani Dladla survived the shooting, while sustaining two gunshot wounds to his neck and thigh.
It is believed that he was returning from campaigning when he was shot at by unknown men in a passing vehicle.
Police spokesperson Captain JS Sokhela said that the incident was reported at about 7.30pm between C and D sections in Wembezi.
He said that the motive for the shooting is not known, no arrests have been made and police investigations continue.
“Anyone with information is urged to communicate such information to the Wembezi SAPS Station Commander on 082 418 9777. The community must also remember that any information, which would lead to the arrest and successful conviction of the perpetrators will be rewarded,” concluded Captain Sokhela.
