A remote jammer operating in Murchison Street got the surprise of his life when he was “tackled” by a woman on Friday evening. Earlier in the day, the man had successfully broken into another vehicle and stolen a laptop after using a remote jamming device to disable the car’s central locking. Having spotted what had happened on CCTV, the woman alerted SecureSA and police responded. However, the man had already fled.
Early that evening, she spotted the same man loitering close to several parked vehicles. She again called SecureSA, who responded together with police. The man managed to ‘jam’ another car and was busy removing stuff when the owner of the vehicle came out of a nearby shop and spotted him. An NN Alarms vehicle driven by Thesan Chetty was flagged down and gave chase, catching the man running down Alexandra Street. A remote jamming device was recovered at the scene.
It is believed that a team of remote jammers are operating in town. Police warn motorists not to trust that when they press their remote to lock the car and activate the alarm, this will actually happen. Rather take a few seconds to look and see that your car is, in fact, properly locked.
