On Saturday morning, Jin Mu Yan opened his shop on Voortrekker Street, not knowing that he would soon be a victim of brazen robbers.
At approximately 10am, three men entered the shop, after which one of the men allegedly pulled out a gun. Mr Yan, together with a shop keeper, was assaulted and tied up with Sellotape. The robbers collected R72 000 in cash, a cell phone and a few Puma watches, before making off with goods, leaving the two tied up on the floor.
Mr Yan immediately contacted the police, who arrived a short time later to collect what evidence they could. Asked why he had had so much cash on the premises, Mr Yan said simply that he did not make use of a bank.
The shop had been closed on Monday, but on Tuesday Mr Yan had returned, and will be conducting business as usual. He said he was not afraid.
