Over the years, Finnemore Street residents have been concerned about overflowing river banks during the rainy season.
Overgrown grass and reeds in the river made it difficult to determine if the Ncandu River, which flowed alongside the road, was about to overflow until the very last minute, said a resident.
Acting Strategic Executive Director for Community Services, Vish Govender, said the river bank itself was the biggest problem faced when clearing reeds and grass.
“The riverbank is very steep and we do not have skilled labour for the job. However, we have made arrangements in the budget and a tender will be allocated so that Finnemore Street can be seen to from top to bottom.”
Mr Govender added that illegal dumping was making grass cutting difficult and urged the community to not only refrain from polluting the area, but also to report culprits to the municipality.
