The scourge of so-called ‘job selling’ has again reared its head within the Newcastle Municipality.
According to a statement drafted by the municipal Communications Unit, numerous reports from residents claimed impostors had scammed them with the promise of employment.
The premise of the scam is that a resident will pay money in return for a position, which is obviously fake.
“The community of Newcastle is encouraged to follow correct channels when applying for employment. Emphasis is made that there are no jobs for sale in the municipality,” read the statement.
Mayor, Afzul Rehman said he agreed with the statement’s contents.
He explained there were no jobs for sale within Newcastle Municipality, adding residents should never agree to pay for employment, as it would never assist them.
“There are all types of cons out there.”
The Newcastle Municipality urges anyone who was promised employment or who has information relating to the scam to contact Colonel Richard Khawula (034 314 6193) or the municipality itself.
