The municipality has cleaned up most of the refuse at the informal dumping site on Link Street.
However, residents are still kicking up a stink over the smelly situation.
Those residing on Link Street reported the dumping problem began when striking municipal workers tipped refuse onto the ground and set the rubbish alight.
The result was a literal volcano of smouldering garbage as the lava.
“There is a terrible smell so I am glad it was cleaned up. There are flies buzzing constantly,” one resident commented.
Almost two weeks ago, the municipal Communications Unit was asked to clarify the legal ramifications those who dump could face and how the matter would be policed.
Despite the lengthy period given, no response was received.
Anonymous municipal sources did state the municipality had been hard at work, sifting through a backlog in recent weeks, and an appeal has been made to residents to refrain from dumping illegally.
