Making a difference in the community

The Daring to Dream movement and Khulisa are embarking on a mission to help children dream big.

A simple gesture can go a far way in making a difference in one’s life.

Embarking on a mission to improve the lives of children though song and dance, Khulisa Midlands and the ‘Daring to Dream’ movement have joined forces to launch two new workshops dubbed  ‘Grab your Dream’ and ‘Rock n Rhyme’.

The ‘Rock n Rhyme’ uses song and movement as a way to involve children in an interactive way of learning, while stimulating cooperative skills, coordination, gross and fine motors skills, self-control, concentration skills, memory, cognitive development, imagination, sense of accomplishment and self-confidence.

In the second phase of the initiative, the ‘Daring to Dream’ movement will launch an educational package comprising; a DVD compilation of nursery rhymes with movements and a workbook.

On Wednesday, April 9, South African singer, CARA*, along with internationally acclaimed Top Dancer and award winner at the 2013 Talent America Showcase, Paul Modjadji joined forces with Khulisa to officially launch the programme in Madadeni and oSizweni.

CARA* explained that she has always been socially concious of the plight of others and has for a long time wanted to make a difference and help children.

Adding his part, Paul said that he grew up having big dreams, but very little support.

Many black children do not have support when it comes to having big dreams and are not encouraged. I grew up with big dreams in a community that did not support me and I did not want to see this happen to any other children.”

Wednesday’s programme saw both Paul and CARA* interacting with children from Lollypop crèche in oSizweni and Indumiso crèche in Madadeni.

Using nursery rhymes to teach valuable lessons such as sharing and caring, the two icons went the extra mile by spending time with the children.

The laughter of the children proved to be a rewarding experience.
