The H39 settlement has finally received streetlights to light the streets after dark, going a long way towards keeping opportunists at bay.
According to Lindile Zincume, the SED for Technical Services, a task team is being formed with Eskom that supplies electricity to the area, to ensure all lights in place remain operational.
During roadshow speeches, Mayor Afzul Rehman again promised to make townships like the suburbs of Newcastle, and providing streetlights is a basic need for a community often racked by crime.
“Negotiations with Eskom are going well,” said Mr Zincume. “We hope to take over Ngagane first.”
Between 500 and 700 streetlights will be converted to LED systems, which will save enormous amounts of electricity and offer a more sustainable maintenance schedule.
