The Democratic Alliance has declared itself ‘excited and thrilled’ by the growth in its support base in Endumeni following the national elections.
Local Councillor, Anthon Raubenheimer, said the party grew by 25% – or 606 votes – from the 2009 national elections.
“We are still the official opposition locally with 15% of the vote. This compares very well with the provisional percentage of 12,7% which has seen the DA take over from the IFP as official opposition in the KZN legislature.”
Mr Raubenheimer said the support for the DA was in spite of ‘impact the demarcation board has had in chopping up wards and creating give new voting districts’.

Voting districts where the DA performed included the Oval where it captured 56% of the vote, Glencoe Civic Hall 50% of the vote, Glencoe Town Hall 36%, Forrestdale Hall 27%, Dundee Secondary, 24% and Ethangeni School 22%.
These stations all registered a marked increase in DA support, Mr Raubenheimer confirmed.
“We are grateful to our supporters who know the DA is the only party that can make a difference. The volunteers also worked exceptionally hard. We are now ready for the 2016 local government elections which of course have a direct impact on our municipality and district.”
