Link Street dumping returns

After a short period of cleanliness, the Link Street 'dump site' has returned.

For residents with homes near the municipal skip on Link Street, the phrase ‘same *****, different day’ applies.

Many weeks after complaints regarding the abuse of the municipal skip by some residents came to light, all manner of refuse still litters the immediate area around the receptacle.

This includes both garden waste and rubbish including empty plastic containers and tins.

Municipal skips, previous information had confirmed, are intended for the responsible disposal of garden refuse, although some residents continue to ignore the implications of not paying this rule any regard.

Instead, dumped non-garden waste festers mere metres from residential homes. While the problem had appeared to have abated after a series of articles, the peace from an assault on the olfactory senses has been shattered.

The community is urged to refrain from such behaviour.

The municipal Communications Unit is yet to provide clarity on the fines or repercussions one could face if found guilty of illegal dumping activity.

No other response has been received to date.
