People living in Kandahar Avenue are furious about the illegal dumping taking place in their street.
All sorts of rubbish is thrown onto open veld in the area, which they say now looks like a dumpsite.
“When we drive up and down our street, to and from work in the mornings and afternoons, instead of having the pleasure of admiring God’s gift of nature in the form of wonderful scenery, we are confronted with filth.

That’s because, lately, people have seen fit to just dump stuff right in front of a ‘No Dumping’ sign, without fear of being fined.
This is decreasing the value of the area, aside from being disgusting to look at,” says Mr Pillay.
He uses Kandahar Avenue as a quick route to his home and says that the area was so neat before, but now is a “complete mess”.
To make matters worse is that, after a while, people set the refuse on fire. Ugly black smoke that reeks to high heaven fogs up the sky, causing pollution and an unhygienic environment. Other residents say they are sick and tired of phoning the municipality to complain about this issue.
“I wish the law of no dumping was taken more seriously.
People really need to be fined, not just signs put up and then nothing else gets done.
An example has to be set or our town will end up a pigsty!”
Commenting on the matter, the municipality says they are aware of the situation and that an internal and external investigation will be carried out.
