Twenty-six employees who were ‘let go’ by the Endumeni Council following the re-suspension of Municipal Manager TP Biyela have seen a ray of light.
A draft order drawn up by Council’s attorneys has been passed by the Labour Court, and will see workers who were originally dismissed rehired legally.
“The intention of Council was always to regularise these appointments, as the incumbents were just victims of circumstance who were misled by certain senior staff members,” said acting Municipal Manager Adv Brijraj.
Council has also given the workers fixed term contracts for the months of May and June 2014, and undertook to advertise the positions so that these workers’ appointments could be regularised via a legal process.
