The SANDF 65-ton Oliphant main battle tank which overturned last night at Van Reenen’s pass has still not been cleared yet and those travelling are cautioned to drive carefully. An N3TC official who did not want to be mentioned told the Ladysmith Gazette this morning it should be cleared within the next few hours. A private breakdown service will be used to remove the tank from the road, as the military recovery team will not reach the scene until much later today.

The tank has sustained heavy damage to its main turret.

The recovery has however started.
