When life deals you a hard blow, take a page from Hlengiwe Khanyeza’s book and go beyond your boundaries.
The 45-year-old mother of five who is also a caregiver at Estcourt Hospice, recently received a certificate in Metal Arc Welding from Midlands Community College and is keen to take on jobs.
Mrs Khanyeza explains, when one asks why welding that it was her husband’s passion and when he passed away in 2012, she decided to take up the trade.
Her first project was her gate at home and within a week, the gate was hung and the compliments came flowing in.
In May this year, she enrolled for a Metal Arc Welding Course.
“Although it was difficult at first, I became very interested in measurements and joining soon afterwards,” said Mrs Khanyeza.
She says that welding would provide a second income for her family, especially now that two of her sons are in grade 12 and hopes that she would be an inspiration to other aspiring welders.
