Last Sunday evening, a motorist crossing the intersection of Queen and Lyell Street got the surprise of his life when a bakkie ploughed into the side of his car.

“My 21-year-old daughter screamed a split second before the bakkie hit,” explained Shaffie Hoosen.

The impact caused extensive damage to both vehicles.

Leaping out of the car, both drivers accused each other of not stopping at a red traffic light.

However, it soon became apparent that neither driver was at fault, as one of the traffic lights was pointing in the wrong direction.

Several people were treated at the scene by paramedics and some were transported to hospital.

According to police, the matter has been handed over to RTI to investigate.

Municipal staff were seen repairing the robot shortly afterwards.
