Umtshezi Municipality councillors met for their monthly meeting last Wednesday in the council chamber at 10am.
Among those present were the municipality’s management team and members of the public in the gallery.
During the verbal motion or notice to council there were various topics that councillors raised concern about.
Councillor Lite said that she was disappointed with the late refuse removal in the past few weeks.
She emphasised how disastrous the areas of Colita and Forderville were; she went further to say it isn’t pleasing to see waste lay around.
She appealed to the director involved to “pull their socks up.”
Another issue of concern, which quite a few councillors brought up, was damaged streetlights not being repaired. Councillor Dladla raised concern regarding things going wrong in management and referred to it as a “cold war,” within the municipality.
Councillor Breen Ally Buckus praised the nightshift workers for keeping the town clean from time to time.
On the contrary he spoke about the red overall workers who laze around, and added that their supervisors either need supervisors or their supervisors need supervision. Councillor Mthembeni Majola passed two letters on to Speaker Mr Cesar Nunes on behalf of a Weenen resident, one of the letters speaking about water issues requesting water supply, and the other requesting a network tower for cellular phones. To end the verbal motions, Mayor Bongani Dlamini said it was sad that during youth month no one addressed subjects concerning the youth.
Despite that he passed thanks for the successfulness of the Youth Day event held at Princess Park on Youth Day. Mr Dlamini requested that the yellow equipment move on to other wards as it has over stayed its welcome in ward nine.
He couldn’t wrap his head around the fact that previously with just a few staff members appointed to attend to cleanliness, the town remained spotless, and now that approximately 300 staff members have been appointed, the town lacks neatness. Mr Dlamini added that programmes should be put in place to ensure the achievement of radical transformation within the Umtshezi Municipality.
He also touched on economic transformation; he encourages the promotion of local businesses and says that utilising local business should be the first stop.
