The R4.5million road rehabilitation project on Alfred and Connor streets has resumed.
This comes after weeks of stops and starts, burst water pipes and much frustration from residents.
On Monday, Umtshezi Municipal Nonhlanhla Njoko confirmed that work has restarted and the “contractors are busy working on it so that the project can be completed soon.” The road rehabilitation project is part of the municipality’s plan to repair all ageing infrastructure but the project had barely scratched the surface when problems surfaced. The water pipes in Connor Street have been damaged several times by the contractor, resulting in water interruptions for residents living in the central business district.
The robot at the Connor and Alexandra streets intersection was also not operational for several months, causing confusion amongst motorists whom had to share just one lane.
Hopefully the road to the rehabilitation will be smoother.
