THE Ulundi Air Show held last Saturday, marked the last in the series of the KZN Winter Air Tour, offering loads of astonishing aircraft action to its eager fans.
Even the windy skies of Zululand could not stop the action and people were out in large numbers.
Zululand people got to be entertained by the country’s finest and top pilots, at a free Ulundi Air Show which started in the morning with a development programme for the top local youth. Young stars were taught about the different facets of aviation, with Federal Airlines giving them the opportunity to fly for the first time in their lives.
Ndabeni Shabalala, Customer Service Urgent for Federal Airline in Ulundi, said, “We are proud and happy to be associated with the KZN Winter Air Tour. We as Federal Airline take pride in bringing aviation to the people of KwaZulu-Natal and the people of Zululand in particular. We wish to see young people pursuing their dreams by looking in all directions in the aviation field at large. We are not only flying them for fun but we are also encouraging them to study hard towards their endeavours.”
More than 60 learners got to fly for the first time.
“This tour brings to a close, a three year contract that KwaZulu-Natal Government put forward to promote aviation in the province. It’s been a very successful and wonderful series. Over a million people have visited and seen these shows and it has been spectacular,” said Brian Emmenis who is the organiser of the air-show.
Zululand Mayor, Cllr Mpiyakhe Hlatshwayo commented, “We see something that we never dreamed of in years, to see the air-show on our doorsteps is amazing. We would like to thank profusely the government of KwaZulu-Natal and all the partners who made this initiative possible.”
